Located
in one of the oldest houses in Sandwich,
(see the map) Shawme Pond Pottery is the home and workshop of Margaret
Tew Ellsworth, artist, potter and educator. Visitors
will find the artist at work in her studio that looks out into the
gardens and woods from which she draws her inspiration. Creatures from
rabbits to chameleons adorn her cache-pots and ovenware, while leaves
from the wild grapevine appear on her tableware. Here
too, the leaf-faced visage of the mythical Green Man peeks out from fountains,
planters, pitchers and mugs. Watercolors
and oil paintings reveal marshes, flower gardens and the surrounding
seas. Each
piece of pottery and each painting is individually created, and each
piece will be one-of-a-kind and never exactly duplicated. Most of the
Pottery is practical as well: oven proof and dishwasher safe. |
